PRESERVERS, TROLLS
(From the Ocean Dreams Holt Newsletter, September 2000)
Five Preservers inhabit the larger of three islands. Four of the Preservers were discovered near the towers when the TreeBender tribe came to the Vast Deep. The Preservers are all that remain of a small group of Glider elves that once lived in the caves that the tower elves now live in. Their disappearance still remains a mystery.
The Tower elves find the Preservers to be pests and have banished them from the towers. The Ocean Dwellers tolerate them only because of Sebree’s love and fondness of them.
IceWing, considered their leader is the mischievous one of the group, never fails to get the others into all sorts of trouble. Anything they can thin of to bother the Tower elves they do it. IceWing was the Preserver that came with the TreeBender tribe.
The Preserver OneWing, had only one wing when it was discovered. Its wing was lost to a Webbed Wing many generations prior to the glider elves disappearance. Sebree, a flesh shaper, changed the one wing into a fin that is attached to the Preservers head and centers the back. Lord Tidas is very fond of OneWing and is never seen without the little Preserver on his shoulder. (Never leaves Lord Tidas)
The Preservers wear small seashells on their heads, their hands and feet have been elongated and webbed. They also live in or out of the water.
Very little is known about the trolls except that they do exist somewhere in the area, near the towers waterfall. It has been over a century since the trolls have been seen. During that time the trolls discovered a small group of mountain trolls that had been placed into slavery for reasons that the mountain troll king considered to be crimes against him. The trolls help the mountain troll slaves to escape, after the rescue the mountain troll slaves join forces with the other trolls forming their own kingdom under the leadership of Toron, often having battles with the mountain trolls.
The trolls know that the captured rockshaper is still alive and is being held captive never being able to leave the mountain troll kings side. (Will they keep the secret?)
From time to time the trolls make their presence known by leaving small gifts such as jewelry and small fighting tools.
