FIVE FINGERS
(From the Ocean Dreams Holt Newsletter, September 2000)

Humans have never populated the area of the Towers or the Ocean Dwellers domain.  Sightings of small groups of humans have been seen near the borders of the Rain Forest.

The nearest known group of humans, called Chata, live on the other side of the Canyon Mountains, near a great lake.  The humans were once a part of a larger group of humans, the Cro, that live further north.  They were outcast from the tribe because they did not believe in the Shamens belief that elves are evil spirits and that the land needed cleansed.

Satak, their leader was sacrificed in exchange for the unbeliever’s freedom.  The Shamen told them never to return or they would suffer the same fate as Satak.

After the banishment, an uprising among the younger human warriors resulted in the death of the Shamen, they killed him believing that he showed a sign of weakness because he let the other unbelievers go.  They believed that it was Gotatas will that all unbelievers must die so that the blessings of Gotara would be received.

The night that Landers came to the Island will be a night that many of the Ocean Dwellers will never forget.  The Landers came in small boats, similar to those of the Ocean Dwellers.  Unlike the humans the Chata and the Cro, these humans were more advanced in their dress and weaponry.  The humans surprised a small group of Ocean Dwellers as they fished for small clearfish that floated near the surface of the water.  The attack was sudden catching the Ocean Dwellers off guard.  The Landers disappeared just as quickly as they had come.  The slaughtered Ocean Dwellers were found still in their boat the next morning near the islands shore.  That night was so painful that many of the Ocean Dwellers have blocked the event from their minds.

No encounters from the humans that live near the lake have occurred at this point in time, however if and when it does will the Ocean Dwellers notice their worship of them?

The humans are very protective of what they think belongs to them.  The human males are considered the power figure in the tribe or family group.  The humans are mostly warriors, some being hunters, gardeners and fisherman.

Many of the elves from both Tribes fear the humans bur many have feelings of hatred towards the humans.
